I was honoured and proud to be part of the art team for Megalights, working alongside some of the most talented artists and developers I’ve ever met. We had a very short time frame to build this little world (just over 2 months), and I was on the project from the beginning, simultaneously conceptualizing the world and each area while also modelling and creating new assets. We relied on several elements from Kitbash3d, modifying them to try to integrate seamlessly with our own new assets.
Our art team works in a very flexible way, and we all overlapped and worked on the whole level together. I was very inspired by the work of my teammates, and we were constantly riffing of each other’s work to get each area of the level looking as polished as we could in the short time frame. My role on the project involved quite a lot of custom modelling/sculpting of the ornate arabian architectural elements, as well as all the various props and trinkets scattered throughout the level. I was also heavily involved in overall lighting and sequencer work, animating all the drones moving up the central tower in the hero-shot. As you can see in the behind-the-scenes video, our initial blockout of the map was looking very rough and required a lot of careful environment design, layout and set-dressing work to make this cyberpunk Arabian fantasy world feel realistic, believable and lived-in.
